Her eldest daughter Lourdes, 18, flew the nest to enroll in the University of Michigan last year.

And queen of pop Madonna, 56, says the emotional milestone left her 'a mess'.

During an interview with Australia's Today Show on Wednesday the mother-of-four spoke of the landmark occasion to entertainment editor Richard Wilkins: 'It's hard letting them go out into the world but when she left home to go to college I was a mess.'
